In many places we have heard advice like: “you have to choose the most suitable racket for your style of play” or “try to choose a good quality padel shoe“.

These pieces of advice are not just for the sake of argument, they are really important for the player to have a higher and more enjoyable performance.

Here we tell you why it is important to choose the right equipment before jumping on the padel court.

Why is it important to wear the right padel shoes?

Choosing the right shoes to play padel has always been one of the most important pieces of advice. The reason for this is that the footwear really influences how the player behaves on the court, their level of comfort and even their integrity.

It has been proven that jumping on the court with shoes that are not specific for padel can cause injuries, even some very serious ones. That is why padel shoes must have the following characteristics:

  • Have good cushioning and shock absorbing materials to reduce the impact of the foot strike.
  • Have technologies or materials that provide stability and support, to avoid twisting in intense matches.
  • Always choose the correct size, which is neither too tight nor too loose. This will prevent injury, discomfort and chronic foot problems.
  • Choose shoes with the right sole for padel, generally, the most recommended is the herringbone or Clay sole. This type of sole is resistant and provides good traction and grip on the court surface.

The importance of taking to the court in comfortable clothing

Clothing is also an essential part of the padel equipment. Fortunately, you can find padel sportswear for men and women in padel shops, created with sufficient features for this sport.

Just like the shoes, the clothing also influences the player’s comfort and ability to move. These are the characteristics that are recommended in any garment to play padel:

  • Soft, high quality fabrics for a more comfortable feel.
  • Breathability technologies so that sweat dries quickly and does not accumulate throughout the match.
  • Woven with flexible materials such as elastane to give the player a greater range of stretch and movement.

Choosing the right racket for your style of play and level of play

Finally, you can’t jump on the court without the most suitable racket for your qualities, needs and preferences.

There are different types of rackets on the market, which have been classified according to their level, materials, format and style of play. These are some of the most common types of rackets:

Classification by style of play

There are three main types: control, power and multi-purpose blades. The power ones, generally tend to have more solid materials and diamond formats, to be heavier and favour offensive play.

On the other hand, the control ones are focused on the manageable game, with materials that are more pleasant to the touch and an extended format to have a larger sweet spot.

Finally, the multi-purpose rackets are a hybrid between the two, seeking the best balance between control and power.

Classification by shape

According to their shape, paddles are mainly classified into three types: round, teardrop and diamond. Round shapes are more suitable for control, as they have a wider hitting area.

Diamond-shaped blades are generally for power, with a sweet spot located in the highest part of the faces.

Teardrop-shaped blades are usually versatile, with a balanced balance to find the middle ground between manoeuvrability and power.

Ranking by level of play

Padel brands and shops also classify padel rackets according to the level of play they are recommended for. Generally, the classification is as follows: beginners, intermediate, advanced and professional.
