In this article, our colleague Nerea Diaz-Maroto brings us the biography of Alejandra Salazar, also known as ‘Ale’ or ‘Bandejandra’ (for her star hit), player number 3 in the WPT women’s ranking.
The 35 year-old Madrid native, born on December 31st, 1985, has become one of the most outstanding figures in this sport. Her humility, simplicity and friendliness have captivated most padel fans.
When Alejandra was eight years old, her mother took her to the country club where her family played padel. In her days there, the young Salazar started playing padel and fell madly in love with the sport of shoveling.
At the age of 12 he started playing in the Madrid Padel Federation thanks to a scholarship. At the age of 15, and after reaping her first successes in junior categories at the national level, Alejandra began to think about the possibility of dedicating herself professionally to this sport.
Since then, the player from Madrid has been progressing in her career while combining her studies with her passion (Alejandra Salazar has a degree in ADE and a Masters in Sports Entity Management)
Her peak as a professional player came in 2009 when she took the number 1 spot on the World Padel Tour, a position she regained in 2016.
One of his most outstanding partners was Marta Marrero, a Canarian player with whom he had to adapt to the drive and with whom he won a WPT Final Master. Currently his sports partner is Ariana Sánchez, a young Catalan player with whom he is reaping great victories in 2020, such as the ADESLAS of Estrella Damm Menorca Open 2020.
